Aromatherapy is an age-old treatment that uses the pure extracts of aromatic plants to heal common ailments and restore emotional balance. It is a holistic treatment that promotes overall wellbeing rather than treating an illness in isolation.

Essential oils are complex chemical substances extracted from aromatic plants. When used for their therapeutic properties of which there are many, the word ‘aromatherapy’ is coined. There are two main routes by which essential oils can enter the body: through the nose by inhalation or by absorption through the skin. Massage is the primary way in which absorption is applied but bathing is also an easy and effective medium.
Essential oils are extremely concentrated and for this reason should not generally be used neat on the skin. When correctly diluted they can be used either as remedies for basic ailments or simply as a beautiful, natural way to scent the body. |
